To ensure your new saddle fits your horse correctly, Fred Schuitemaker will send you the Saddletech Gauge, a simple, easy and accurate 3-dimensional measurement of the horse's back and the saddle. Once you follow the easy steps included, simply send the gauge back to Fred with the proper measurements in place.

The Saddletech System

The Saddletech System is a method of measurement consisting of

1. The Saddletech Gauge that measures the three dimensional shapes of horse's backs and saddles with numerical values,

2. The Saddletech formula to compensate for the relative weights of the horse and rider and

3. The Saddletech Balance Stand that permits the saddler to adjust the balance of the saddle in the saddle shop using the Saddletech Gauge and

4. The Saddletech Computer Saddle Fitting System that measures the actual pressure applied to the horse by the saddle and rider to refine the accuracy of the Saddletech formula and to perform advanced research.

Why is the saddle measurement so important?
The spine of the horse bends to some degree under the weight of the rider relative to the weight of the horse. If the saddle fits the shape of the unloaded horse's back, the saddle may not fit under the rider's weight. To accurately determine how much the back of the horse is actually effected by the weight of the rider we need some objective criteria. The Saddletech Gauge provides a standard of measurement to compare the 3-D shapes of unloaded and loaded horse's backs.

What makes the Saddletech Gauge so important? Calibrated Measurement - the Saddletech Gauge is the first calibrated instrument to measure the 3-dimensional shape of the horse's back and the saddle. Although bailing wire, plaster casts and peg boards can provide some information, these methods of measurement do not provide numerical measurements. Each component of the Saddletech System provides greater levels of accuracy.
